TARA PALMER

BIO

Tara is an Oklahoma City-based singer, songwriter, voice actor, and private textual coach with a love for arranging and music production.

A lifelong musician from Mustang Oklahoma, Tara studied piano under the direction of Myra Schubert M.M., for 9 years. Tara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Business from Oklahoma’s Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM@UCO) and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies and Music Production from the University of Central Oklahoma’s Jazz Lab (UCO), which she regards as her highest accomplishment. Here she studied voice with Dr. Marilyn Govich, improvisation with Lee Rucker, arranging and composition with Zachary Lee, and advanced recording and production techniques with Dennis Borycki and Patrick Conlon.

Along with colleague, business partner, and vocalist, Amy Gillett, Tara founded The Lesson House in 2009, where she coaches voice and teaches piano to musicians of all levels. She says,

“No endeavor means more to me than The Lesson House— my love for investing in young artists. I’ve spent a lot of time in their shoes, so

I understand the importance of having trusted and trained mentors to help open up your brain and expand your knowledge and expectations of yourself.

Without those people who did that for me— who really cared about my development— I absolutely would not be the teacher, the musician, or the person I am today.”

Outside of music, Tara also has a love for film, television, and voice acting. She worked as the head Casting Assistant for Oklahoma's largest casting agency, Freihofer Casting, alongside director, Chris Freihofer. There she managed the agency's commercial and movie projects, taught acting classes to young actors, and honed her skills in front of, as well as behind the camera. (Rudderless, 2014)

Tara incorporates jazz-pop styles, disco vibes, and fresh vocal production into her original music and arrangements. She feels most in her element when coaching and collaborating with students and fellow artists.

“It’s such a cool feeling when I can effectively connect with a student on a musical level. I love seeing people get excited about the language of music and be able to access parts of their voice they didn't know were there.

Each person's instrument is totally unique and we all have our own story to tell.

What ends up happening is, we learn more about ourselves and the world around us through our shared resonance, and through the music, technique, and stories that we study.”
